Ellen is an ESRC funded PhD student at Cardiff University’s Centre for Language and Communication research. In line with the forthcoming Curriculum for Wales (2022), her doctoral project explores if and how directly teaching English word history, word construction and word-part meanings influences children’s academic vocabulary development. Previously, Ellen completed a BA in English at the University of Southampton. She then worked as a secondary school English teacher before moving to Cardiff University to complete an MA in Language and Linguistics. She now works as a tutor for the Brilliant Club and Cardiff University’s ‘Step-Up to University’ programme and as an English language and literature writing support and seminar tutor at Cardiff University.
